Specialist fire extinguishers are fire extinguishers that are made for a specific scenario that is not covered by traditional fire extinguishers. This is especially meaning Class D fires. Class D fires are very dangerous and are a serious threat if not extinguished properly. Class D fires are fires involving combustible metals such as potassium, lithium and magnesium. This Class of fire is very niche and is only likely to occur in locations such as workshops where these types of metals are used. As this isn’t very common, almost all other fire extinguishers don’t cover this Class. If there is any risk of this kind of fire in any location, a Specialist fire extinguisher is a must. If any other type of fire extinguisher is used, it will only make the fire worse.
