This medium fire blanket is a great cheap alternative or addition to any fire safety setup. As well as their commercial uses, they can be a great addition to any domestic situation, especially in kitchens. Using this can be the perfect method to fight something like a small pan fire.
1.2m x 1.2m for perfect coverage
Fire blankets work by covering the fire and restricting it with oxygen. This starves the fire and eventually will put out the fire. They are recommended only when the fire can be safely and effectively extinguished by using it.
Fire blankets certified to BSEN1869:1997
All our fire blankets are fully certified to BSEN1869:1997, unlike cheaper alternatives found on online auction sites. The rigid moulded plastic case protects the blanket from grease, dirt and damage, and will need a minimum space of 250mm high by 180mm wide to mount it. Having a slim profile of only 45mm thick, it won’t get in the way of everyday life.
Simple to use
The medium fire blanket is simple to use and contains pictograms and instructions on the front of the box. They are ideal for holiday rentals, student accommodation, or caravans where you cannot guarantee the user can safely operate an extinguisher. Fire blankets don’t have expiry dates, like extinguishers, but should only ever be used once, and should be discarded and replaced if they ever get used on a fire.
Do fire blankets require regular testing or maintenance?
The short answer is no! A simple visual inspection of the fire blanket to see if it remains in good condition should be sufficient. You can do this simultaneously while checking your fire extinguisher gauges and tamper tags each month. It should be noted that fire legislation in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland recommends that fire blankets be checked weekly to see if they have been used/are still present. A sticker or tamper tag can be used to see if the case has been opened at any point, or if it is still sealed. In a holiday rental, you may want to add this to the cleaner’s checklist.
